Data Set Request: Trash Can Locations
Data Set Request: Trash Can Locations
We put out a call to the world for suggestions for data sets and you came through! In droves!
Our data team is sifting through your requests. Some of you have asked for information that’s available. A few of you have asked for something that’s a little tweak to what we already publish. Others of you – great ideas that will keep us busy for a bit!
One of the first replies we received was from Elise, a dog owner who wanted to know how to find trash cans in downtown Raleigh so that she could better plan for her dog’s daily constitutional. As a responsible pooch parent, she wanted to be able to quickly dispose of her canine’s “output” from their walks.
Here’s all she needed to ask us for the team to spring into action:
“I walk my dog and would love to plan walks around garbage can locations so I can dump his poo bags.”
Here’s how we replied:
This email is in response to your data requested submitted on our Open Data site for garbage can locations. We do have the locations of our solar powered trash compactors in the Sustainability Projects data set (Click Here).
When the page opens click on the data tab
and a table of the data will be displayed.
Click on the
in the Category column. This will add a filter box above the table.
Click inside the filter box
.
When the text box appears type in Trash
and hit the Enter key.
This will filter the data to only show our solar powered trash compactor locations and is displayed in the map above the data table. The zoom controls are on the left-hand side of the map and your cursor can be used to pan around inside the map.
Simple as that!
If you would like to make a request for a data set, or just need help finding something we might already have, just reach out using the form on our site! You can get there by clicking “request a data set.”
Great post! Keep 'em coming!
